FDA compliant EB curable laminating adhesives from Northwest Coatings

Northwest Coatings has announced the availability of Electron Beam (EB) curable laminating adhesives which are FDA compliant for food packaging applications. Compliance was achieved as a result of FDA review of Food Contact Notification (FCN) number 642. The services of Keller & Heckman LLP were use in the preparation and filing of the FCN. It included extensive migration and toxicity data supporting the safe use of this technology for food packaging. The adhesives provide good bonding to a variety of substrates including, PET, BOPP, LDPE, metallized films, aluminum foil, and paper. The FCN covers all type of foods up to FDA condition of use C (hot filled or pasteurized above 150F).
EB laminating adhesives are one part systems which require no mixing or adjustment. Full bond strength is achieved immediately upon curing which eliminates work in progress. Instant bonding also allows in-line processing including: printing, multi-layer lamination, slitting, sheeting, etc.
