Heidelberg integrates CERM with Prinect

Following the acquisition of CERM, Heidelberg claims Prinect is the only workflow solution in the industry to offer a fully integrated MIS (management information system). The new solution, which is called Prinect Business Manager, has a broad application spectrum and modular design, making it ideal for a variety of printing applications. Based on JDF/JMF, it offers process automation, improves transparency, and simplifies data handling, which helps improve the competitive edge in a tough market environment. ‘Integrating MIS and Prinect will mean that changes made to jobs at short notice will be implemented automatically in terms of machine selection and materials management,’ explained Christopher Berti, Head of Prinect and CtP at Heidelberg. ‘We are driving the merger of two systems that, despite JDF integration, have remained separate to date.’
The highly industrialized nature of folding carton production makes complete integration even more important. Prinect focuses on optimizing make ready times for presses and die cutters and gluers in post press with the aim of reducing production costs. Prinect Package Designer, (CAD/CAM software) which integrates the structural design in Prinect, will provide graphic designers with contours, 3D images, and dimensions via a special Illustrator plug-in. This enables them to use Adobe Illustrator to create graphic design using the contour data and to run the 3D check straight away. Sheet assembly functions are also improved, and production managers welcome the quality of information available to approve and execute the planning, costing, and workflow optimization.
