Herma launches interactive sustainability tool

New digital guide helps label printers navigate PPWR material requirements.

Herma has launched the GreenGuide, an interactive digital tool designed to help label printers, packaging developers and brand manufacturers identify self-adhesive material choices that meet EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements.

The tool guides users through criteria including recyclability, material compatibility and PPWR compliance, providing a structured framework for selecting application-specific materials ahead of the regulation's August 12, 2026 deadline.

'Our aim is to make the complexity resulting from the PPWR manageable,' said Harald Wallner, director of international sales at Herma. 'With the GreenGuide, we are creating transparency and highlighting concrete alternatives that can be implemented today, from recyclable adhesives to material-reduced concepts.'

The GreenGuide will make its public debut at Interpack 2026, where Herma's Self-adhesive Materials division is making its first independent appearance. The stand will also feature the company's 72Hpw pressure-sensitive adhesive, certified as recycling-compatible across several material combinations, including PET in the 80 deg C washing process and HDPE in the 40 deg C cold washing process. PP and PE film labels using 72Hpw have also been classified as fully compatible with the rigid HDPE recycling stream.

Further exhibits include the Herma InNo-Liner, a liner-free format for shipping and logistics labels that eliminates backing material waste, and compostable self-adhesive materials using Herma Adhesive 62Q, certified for home and garden composting and verified against the Australian standard AS 5810.

'Whether it's recycling, composting or material reduction, the label is increasingly becoming a key driver of future-proof packaging,' added Wallner.
