KSW Microtec launches flexible temperature data logger
KSW Microtec AG, the German company from ‘Silicon Saxony’, has launched the thinnest flexible temperature data logger in the market. The KSW-VarioSens temperature data logger is a semi active RFID transponder in a label format, which measures the temperature with an integrated sensor and records the data by means of the paper thin environmentally-friendly battery. It is even able to evaluate measured data and save only the data which is of relevance.
The water-repellent surface and the self-adhesive backside mean that an RFID temperature data logger can be used directly on every single product.
KSW Microtec has a well-established research and development record which enables the company to produce the label completely in-house. This is reflected in its pricing which makes both volume and single use application cost-effective.
In KSW Microtec’s project with the German Red Cross in Dresden, the application of temperature data loggers in blood logistics and storage have been successfully trialed and tested. The KSW-VarioSens can be fixed on the single blood bottles and can measure and record the temperature data non-stop throughout the whole processing cycle. Frequency and mode of the temperature measurement can be chosen and changed individually before or during the cold chain.
Because the KSW-VarioSens meets the highest mechanical requirements it can remain on the blood bottle throughout the whole processing cycle, even in the centrifuge. The KSW-VarioSens rides out the extreme conditions of 3880 rounds per minute (5000g) in the centrifuge without loosing any functionality. The flexibility and negligible 8.5 gram weight of the KSW-VarioSens preserve the integrity of the centrifugal process and protect the blood bottle that could be damaged by less flexible equipment.
The unique technical design means that the data is always available providing permanent process control of the cold chain. The data is processed and displayed to the user as a graph or in tabular form. The accurate temperature-time history enables to pinpoint areas of potential failings and to assign responsibility. The KSW-VarioSens has a UID written on the chip which makes the blood bottle fraud resistant and prevents interchanging of blood units. The 3-Level-passwordsystem ensures the data security of confidential patient data.
The KSW-VarioSens has proved that in blood logistics and storage it works both reliably and accurately, under the sterility and mechanical requirements. Further projects in the pharmaceutical, logistics and food sector show that the KSW-VarioSens is an ideal low cost solution for temperature monitoring, regardless of the temperature range and environment.
