Mercian Labels offers new range of WEEE and RoHS compliant labels
Short run labeling specialists Mercian Labels Ltd have launched a new range of RoHS compliant labels in advance of the new legislation coming into force on 1 July 2006.
The RoHS legislation covers ‘the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment’ and has prompted widespread activity in the label industry to ensure a range of suitable materials are compliant. The regulations principally cover elevated levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants from 1 July 2006. Self adhesive labels, as component parts of electronic devices can be included in the regulations.
‘In response to numerous client requests for certification statements we have worked heavily with our supply chain to ensure a range of RoHS compliant products,’ said Mercian's managing director Dr Adrian Steele. ‘This range complements the existing WEEE labels that have been in use for some time now.’
