AB Graphic International chose Labelexpo Europe 2007 for the launch of its new Omega Digicon series 2 label converting line. Developed to meet the increasing demand for multiple converting options from end users, the line offers an expanded range of processing technologies for digitally printed webs. The launch is timely as the company has just been announced as sole strategic partner to HP Indigo.

The Digicon series 2 is fully modular so minimizing initial investment and allowing machine capabilities to be expanded to meet end user requirements. All printing and converting modules come with automated pre-positioning giving minimum wastage and quick make ready. The servo driven web tension control is capable of handling a wide range of substrates; both paper and non-paper. Semi rotary web motion with dial in repeat lengths and only one cylinder size means that there are no gears or shafts to change.

The basics of the machine include unwind/rewind units, electronic web guide, infeed roller, semi rotary flexographic printing station, air cooled UV curing, mid press dance roller to allow for combinations of rotary flexo and semi rotary die cutting, servo driven out-feed nip roller, waste matrix and HMI touch screen control. This basic specification can be increased at any given time with the addition of series 2 modules to provide additional converting options.

Modules available can include interface to link the machine to a host digital print engine for in-line operation, semi rotary hot foil stamping and embossing, over laminating, semi rotary silk screen printing, sheeting, pharma 100% print inspection, corona treater and rotary flexo printing. Unwind/rewind offerings come in the shape of motorized reel lifting for 700mm (27”) diameter reels and 1000 mm (40inch) unwind upgrade with integral roll lift and web guide.

The company also offers the Digicon FB, a flat bed version of the Digicon Series 2. This is a flat bed design of comparable specification for converters utilizing flat bed systems allowing tooling to be inter-changed.
