New security print feature from De La Rue
De La Rue, the world’s largest commercial security printer, has launched a new highly secure print feature, Solitaire, a novel ultra-violet inspector-authentication feature.
Solitaire is an up-grade to the invisible UV inks which are now commercially available. A pattern is printed which appears as two colors under visible light, but which is transformed into one color under UV light. The contrast between the two color visible inks and the one color fluorescing ink is obvious. The use of Solitaire also supports other UV features.
Verification requires only the use of a UV lamp, under which a counterfeited feature will appear as two colors, not one. Solitaire is resistant to copying, scanning and fraudulent alteration.
De La Rue say that Solitaire is ideal for a range of security documents, especially fiscal stamps and authentication
labels, and other applications which are subject to verification by investigators, Customs and Excise and other government and commercial officials. The company’s in-house design team can create tailor-made images incorporating the Solitaire feature to enhance branding in conjunction with other security features.
Peter Henderson, leader of De La Rue Security Print’s Product Development team which developed the new feature, said: ‘Covert security features, those which can be easily and quickly authenticated with a simple UV lamp, are increasingly important to those at the front line of the war against counterfeit. We believe that Solitaire will be a welcome, secure enhancement to document protection, and its innovative qualities will make it a particularly effective security feature.’
