O’Neil Product Development, Inc., manufacturer of The Most Reliable Portable Printers range, has introduced the DTransfer label stock which, for the first time, allows thermal transfer labels to be printed by a direct thermal portable printer.

‘The ability to efficiently print thermal transfer labels in the field has been long awaited by a host of industry users who need on-demand thermal transfer labels for a wide variety of field labeling applications,’ said the company in a statement.

DTransfer technology incorporates long-life, abrasion and scratch-resistant polypropylene thermal transfer label stock and resin ribbon on a single roll, enabling users to print highly durable labels in the field as well as expand the functionality of their direct thermal portable printers. DTransfer labels are recommended for permanent and/or environmentally demanding label applications that would degrade standard direct thermal labels. DTransfer offers a solution for field-based asset tracking and tough-to-label applications such as chemical drums, rail cars, pallet slots, rental cars, industrial equipment, utility assets, and dock equipment.

‘DTransfer offers significant efficiencies and time saving benefits to anyone who needs the durability of thermal transfer labels and the convenience of demand printing in mobile environments,’ declared John Otott, general manager of the O’Neil Paper Supplies Group. ‘Users will gain the sharp contrast and durable image of a thermal transfer label while enjoying the portability and low-maintenance convenience of a ribbon-free direct thermal portable printer.’

‘O’Neil’s exclusive DTransfer label technology will literally transform the way companies use and apply thermal transfer labels,’ continued Jeff Osborne, O’Neil’s vice president of branding and communications. ‘The convenience and accuracy gained by printing the label at the point of application opens up a world of opportunities for anyone who integrates or uses portable printing solutions.’

To produce thermal transfer labels using an O’Neil portable printer, no modification to the printer is required. A user loads the DTransfer label stock, prints the label, easily removes the ribbon layer, and applies the label. The convenience of the mobile form factor means these labels can be produced and applied on-demand. The label options include a wide range of facesheets, substrates, and adhesives to accommodate heat, cold, humidity and other environmental concerns.
