Stork unveils latest version of DSI digital label printer at Labelexpo

The latest version of Stork Prints’ DSI digital label printer was unveiled at Labelexpo Europe. Demonstrations of the machine were given several times each day with a James Bond theme; featuring a Bond-type figure, four Bond girls and a Stork Prints technician masquerading as ‘Q’ while demonstrating the machine.

Visitors witnessed the modularity of the DSI design, which makes it suitable for everything from stand-alone digital printing to use in complete lines with in-line (semi-rotary) converting. It is supplied with four print heads as standard, although an additional six can be added to enable options like digital white, digital primer and an extended color gamut. During the show, labels were printed for markets ranging from food and personal care to wine and spirits, automotive and industrial applications.

Also on display was a range of modular printing units based on the Stork Prints Rotary Screen Integration (RSI) technology. There were a total of four RSI printing units, the RSI 2 16in, RSI Compact and RSI printing modules for OEM partners Nilpeter and Omet. RSI printing modules can be integrated into the architecture, software and mechanics of the latest-generation printing presses. Key benefits are said to include full interactivity, better user-friendliness and a shorter learning curve.

Other rotary screen highlights at the Stork Prints stand included the re-engraveable RotaMesh screen for RSI systems, and the re-usable RotaPlate screen for non-Stork Prints systems. Both feature an ultra-stable electroformed pure-nickel construction, offering easy handling, high stability and resistance to breakage at relatively high speeds. RotaMesh and RotaPlate screens and samples were also on display.

Two digital pre-press machines were showcased in Brussels:

  • The rotaLEN, a direct laser engraver for in-the-round processing of RotaMesh and RotaPlate screens. With its one-step, ecological-friendly and chemical-free imaging process it claims to reduce labor time by up to 45 percent, shorten time-to-market and increase quality and reproducibility.
  • The rotaLEX, a compact desk-top unit which uses laser exposure to engrave RotaPlate screens held in position on a magnetic drum. It is compatible with all available RotaPlate screen specifications, from fine text to tactile applications. The rotaLEX saves time – rastering on the fly is possible – and design changes can be turned around faster.
