UPM promoted its environmentally sustainable paper products at Labelexpo Europe. The company’s paper label is made of renewable raw material sourced from sustainably managed forests. It has a low carbon footprint, and is recyclable and biodegradable.

‘Paper is really an environmentally responsible choice,’ said Heikki Hyvrinen, UPM's sales operations director for label papers.

UPM has adopted a lifecycle approach to its operations, identifying and managing the social and environmental impact its products may have at each stage of their lifecycle – from the sourcing of raw materials through to production and to the final disposal of the end product.

‘We are constantly looking for new options not only to improve our own performance but also to support our customers and their customers in each part of the converting chain,’ underlined Jussi Toikka, UPM's vice president, sales and marketing, converter segment.

UPM has reduced its mill site carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of paper by 40 percent since 1990.
