Vertis has announced the launch of its new soft proofing system: a monitor-based, color-correct software that applies advanced color management to verify the accuracy of every monitor and proof. This end-to-end solution links creative professionals and premedia directly with clients, photographers, agencies, and Vertis print divisions. Utilizing the advanced Remote Director software, Vertis Soft Proofing guarantees that proofs on the monitor match the Certified Press Proofs used in publication production.

‘Market trends are indicating the demand for contract soft proofing is growing at an incredible rate and technological solutions must be developed to meet industry needs,’ said Dave Colatriano, Vertis senior vice president and general manager, premedia and direct mail. ‘With the launch of Vertis Soft Proofing, Vertis will further establish its expertise in the proofing arena while maintaining a market leadership position in color management.’

Aside from guaranteeing monitor-based color accuracy, Vertis Soft Proofing allows multiple reviewers in various locations to examine, collaborate, and input comments on color and content. Using annotation and markup tools, the system builds a digital record of the proofing process, including comments and legal sign-offs, from start to finish.  Reviewers can collaborate in real-time or work at their own convenience, allowing Vertis to more effectively communicate internally between divisions and externally with clients, photographers, agencies, and other vendors in the workflow.

‘What used to take days can be accomplished in hours with soft proofing,’ Colatriano said. ‘This process is faster and more efficient than conventional hard copy proofing. Several rounds of soft proofs can be done in a quicker time frame at a lower overall production cost to the client.’

Used in conjunction with Vertis Color Communicator’ which generates contract proofs on-site, Vertis Soft Proofing will speed customers’ time to market and manage the cost of color-correct soft proofing. The Vertis Soft Proofing system can be downloaded from the Internet, installs in minutes, and runs on commercially available hardware.
