Vision system targets clinical trial label inspection tasks

The Value Engineering Alliance, a provider of machine vision products, has added to its array of application-specific vision solutions the AVIA clinical trial label inspection system.
A complete hardware and software solution that inspects the variable and fixed label content of clinical trial labels up to A4 size (210 x 297mm), the system self-learns from printed samples, PDF documents or rasterized pre-print images. It then compares acquired images of printed labels to source information in PDF or a variety of graphical formats.
The AVIA clinical trial label inspection system is both language and print orientation independent, corrects for character drift and print warping, can perform optical character recognition, optical character verification or image comparison on variable content information and supports the setting of different inspection sensitivity regions on labels.
All label images are stored for post-inspection review and when the inspection process is done difference reports are generated for examination by quality control or production personnel. Compared to some clinical trial label inspection methods now in use, the AVIA system has provided up to 99 percent reduction in human inspection time and up to an 80 percent increase in label inspection throughput.
Since it is compatible with the PSIFEye computer automated proofreading system, inspection templates can be transferred between the two products.
