Italian press manufacturer Omet has appointed Rototec as its distributor in South Africa.

‘Our plan is to target the short-run self-adhesive label production market with our Flexy and X-Flex models, the wine industry with our Varyflex offset machine, and the packaging industry, either flexibles or cartons, with our Varyflex combination press, which is 850mm wide and integrates all possible printing technologies inline,’ explained Sergio Villa, Omet’s area manager, who was present at the DecTec Africa 2010 conference held in Cape Town in December.

‘There’s a clear tendency for different applications to go to shorter runs, eg folding cartons and flexible packaging,’ he continued. ‘Therefore, we are promoting our company as a one-stop shop.

‘Omet pioneered servo-driven gearless and shaftless press architecture with printing sleeves back in 2000; RotoControl (Rototec’s other principal) offers servo-driven platforms on its finishing equipment; and Rototec itself is the leading tooling supplier for the South Africa market. We have a perfect fit and the two companies ideally complement each other. We’re already the market leader in the Mediterranean area, including North Africa – basically the Maghreb – and we’re confident that South Africa can play a role as a launching pad for Omet for the rest of the African continent, leading the way to all surrounding countries.’
