Biodegradable plastics gather pace at K
Symphony Environmental reports record order value and interest

Symphony Environmental Technologies has reported its best ever presence at K, the plastics industry exhibition, with record attendance on its stand and a record value of orders placed.
Symphony Environmental’s d2w was reported as a particular draw for visitors to the show, while d2p and d2t also generated interest, the company said.
Visits to the stand were made by many members of the Oxo-biodegradable Plastics Association and by Symphony’s distributors from around the world. Many plastics recyclers also visited for confirmation of the compatibility of d2w with post-consumer plastics recycling.
Symphony Environmental’s d2w product makes plastics oxo-biodegradable when added at the manufacturing stage, while d2p is a non-silver based masterbatch designed to combat moulds, fungi, decay organisms, bacteria and algae; d2t is Symphony Environmental’s anti-counterfeiting technology.
Michael Laurier, Symphony Environmental’s chief executive officer, said: ‘There was exceptional demand for d2w – our well-established oxo-biodegradable masterbatch – as the best and least expensive option for biodegradation of plastics. It turns plastic into a biodegradable material at the end of its useful life.
‘Great interest was also shown in our new d2p range of anti-fungal and anti-microbial plastics, and our d2t range of anti-counterfeiting technologies.’
Novamont used K to present its latest generation of Mater-Bi products, a family of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics. The Novamont product range now includes new grades for film food packaging, two new materials for injection moulding and transparent mulching film.
Laurier added: ‘More than 600 requests for further information were recorded by Symphony’s staff, from end users, processors and raw material producers.’
