Mactac Printing Products has received British Standard (BS) 5609 marine immersion testing approval and certification on five additional durable film labelstocks.

BS 5609 is a specification for printed pressure-sensitive, adhesive coated labels for marine use, which include requirements for the label base material. Labels are typically used for identification, warning and instruction.

BS 5609 testing is a requirement for self-adhesive drum labels needing International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) certification. Testing includes a three-month exposure of labeled test plates in salt water at mid-tide.

‘With the BS 5609 certification, we can now offer our label converters and end-users additional durable film solutions specifically engineered to meet the most stringent drum label application requirements,’ said Kim Hensley, product manager, Mactac Printing Products. ‘We are continually augmenting our offering to ensure all our durable film solutions are recognized to meet the latest industry regulations.’

Designed for long-term durability and performance in harsh environments, Mactac’s durable films adhere to a wide variety of substrates lasting the life of the application. Typical durable film applications include lawn and garden, appliance and nameplate, chemical drums and wet-cell batteries. Designed to address extreme application needs, Mactac’s durable films provide protection against solvents and chemicals, temperature extremes, ultra-violet (UV) light, moisture and abrasion.
