Metsä increases price of white-top kraftliners to regain margins

- Prices to rise €50/t in Europe and $50/st in North America from September
- Increase to return margins to an 'acceptable level' after downward adjustment
Material supplier Metsä Board, formerly known as M-real, is raising the price of all Kemiart white-top kraftliner grades in September as it looks to use the upturn in demand over the summer to return its margins to an ‘acceptable level’.
Kemiart is a family of kraftliners suitable for a range of print processes, such as flexo and offset, and different applications, from packaging to point-of-sale display units.
Price rises
In Europe, the price of all Kemiart white-top kraftliner grades will increase by €50/t, effective for deliveries as of September 17.
In North America, the increase is $50/st ($55/mt), valid for all deliveries as of September 4.
Seasonal adjustment
Risto Auero, vice president for sales of linerboards and wallpaper base at Metsä Board, said: ‘When demand for white-top kraftliner started to fall last autumn in Europe, prices also started to decline, and we adjusted our pricing downwards in line with the rest of the market.
‘Over the summer months demand has picked up clearly, and our order books are full.
‘Thus we feel this is the right moment to try to get our margins back to an acceptable level.’
