NatureFlex film takes healthy eating to Italian schools

Innovia Films’ compostable, cellulose-based material NatureFlex NVS is helping promote healthy eating in Italian schools.
 
The EU-funded “Frutta nelle Scuole” (school fruit scheme) sees children aged 6-11 years old given fresh organic fruit to eat during the school day, individually packaged in NatureFlex NVS.
 
NatureFlex is a cellulose-based substrate produced from wood sourced from managed plantations operating on good forestry principals, such as FSC or others, and is certified compostable in both home and industrial composting environments, and suitable for anaerobic digestion.
 
NatureFlex NVS has been specifically formulated to offer improved stiffness under chill cabinet conditions and a controlled level of moisture permeability with a heat-sealable conversion-friendly coating on both sides. NatureFlex also offers: inherent dead fold and anti-static properties; a high-gloss finish and transparency; resistance to grease and oil; a good barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils; and a wide heat-seal range.

The transparent NatureFlex NVS film used in this application is converted and sold to packers by Italian package printer Corapack, which has many years experience in perforating and printing various flexible films.
 
Fabrizio Radice, Corapack sales manager, said: ‘NatureFlex NVS was the ideal choice to flow wrap the fruit as it not only protects the product inside, due to its semi-permeability to moisture, but also provides good machinability and printability, ensuring a nice pack appearance. In addition the film has excellent environmental attributes such as being compostable and made from renewable resources.’
