SmartSolve launches water-soluble packaging
PureNil 0 offers a plastic-free, bio-based substrate for consumer goods.
SmartSolve has launched PureNil 0, a plastic-free, bio-based and flushable packaging material designed to replace single-use plastics in consumer-packaged goods.
The water-soluble substrate runs on standard form, fill and seal equipment, allowing manufacturers to adopt plastic-free packaging without equipment modifications or process changes. The material is fully printable and engineered for dry or powdered product formats.
PureNil 0 entered ramp production on January 8, 2026, following validation and production readiness. The material was first introduced publicly in October 2025.
Applications include household cleaning products, feminine care, beauty and personal care, agriculture, home and garden, select healthcare applications and food and beverage. As SmartSolve's first direct food contact-approved product, PureNil 0 enables packaging for confectionery, snack formats and powdered beverage mixes.
'ARC 01's single-serve coffee packets formed of PureNil 0 feel pleasant and natural to the touch, are structured well enough to maintain their integrity and protect their contents, are easy to tear and pour, and can be deployed and disposed of anywhere,' said Aron Pobereskin, founder of ARC 01, which is already using PureNil 0 to develop an instant coffee package that disperses in water.
The material is certified for direct food contact and produced in ISO and FSSC 22000 compliant facilities. It provides an alternative to PVA films while supporting brands navigating Extended Producer Responsibility requirements.
