First Presstek 75DI in UK to replace three conventional offset presses

- Five-color press ordered, to be installed with an in-line aqueous coater
- Reduced environmental impact central to investment decision
Printer RCS has ordered the first Presstek 75DI digital offset press to be installed in the UK, which will replace three conventional offset presses when it is operational.
The Presstek 75DI is a highly automated 29in (B2+ format) digital offset press that is available in four- to 10-color configurations.
It is available with a full range of productivity enhancing options, including an in-line coater. The 75DI features support for 300lpi and FM screening, six-minute job-to-job turnover (including on-press plate imaging) and a small environmental footprint. The press prints up to 16,000 sheets per hour.
Presstek showed the 75DI at Drupa 2012, which is where RCS saw the press.
RCS undertakes a number of print jobs for different markets, including boxes and labels, through to fridge magnets and compliment slips.
RCS has ordered a five-color 75DI with an in-line aqueous coater, and it will go into its 43,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility in Retford, Notts.
Environment
Environmental improvement is a core tenet of the company’s philosophy and it has an extensive environmental statement, which you can read here.
The order for the Presstek 75DI-AC was made on the basis of the impact it will have on reducing RCS’ environmental impact.
Michael Todd, owner and managing director of RCS, said: ‘One of the important criteria in our selection process was the small environmental footprint of the 75DI press.
‘Its waterless printing, on-press chemistry-free imaging and reduced waste support our environmental sustainability efforts.
‘We spend a great deal of time thinking about how to reduce the impact of our activities, and replacing three conventional offset presses with the environmentally-friendly 75DI will make a huge difference in that regard.’
High-quality printing
In addition to looking for an environmentally sustainable solution, RCS was seeking a press that could address the growing volume of very high quality short runs.
Todd added: ‘Like most printers today, we are seeing both run lengths and turnaround times drop. The Presstek 75DI will allow us to continue to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.
‘Its six-minute make-ready means we can profitably handle more jobs in one day on a single press than we could with our previous configuration at quality levels that we believe will thrill our customers.
‘We also look forward to leveraging the 75DI to help our resellers increase their activity. We’re really looking forward to getting this press installed.’
Operational gains
Axel Thien, Presstek’s president of the Europe, Africa and Middle East region, said: ‘We are so excited to be working with a firm as well-known, versatile and committed to environmental sustainability as RCS.
‘I am confident that RCS will be delighted with the Presstek 75DI once it is installed, not only in terms of its small environmental footprint, but also with the quality and productivity it will contribute to the operation.
‘RCS is accustomed to using stochastic screening and will be able to continue that service with the 75DI without any extra work or effort.’
