A new label has been launched by WindMade to provide consumers with an easy way to identify products produced using renewable energy.

WindMade is a non-profit organization promoting the adoption of wind as a renewable energy source. The WindMade product label can be applied to all products using a minimum share of 75 percent of renewable energy in their total electricity consumption with wind power representing the largest share.

The requirements to use the WindMade product label cover the entire power consumption for all product components, from the extraction of raw materials to the finished product leaving the factory.

Henrik Kuffner, chief executive officer of WindMade, said: ‘The WindMade product label provides consumers with the transparency they demand, and with a credible and intuitive tool to make informed purchasing decisions.

‘It gives companies an instrument to tap into this large pool of environmentally conscious consumers.’

To mark the global launch of its label, WindMade has also launched a campaign, Show You Care, that aims to show brands that consumers around the world favor products manufactured using renewable energy.

A recent study of 24,000 consumers in 20 countries around the world, conducted by wind energy specialist Vestas and research agency TNS Gallup, showed that 73 percent of consumers would have a more positive perception of a brand if it used wind power as its primary energy source.

To participate in the campaign, consumers are invited to submit photos via email of their favorite products carrying the WindMade label, and share them via social media.

Angelika Pullen, WindMade’s communications director, said: ‘It’s time for consumers to speak out. We know they care, and we know that they want to see more companies using wind power.’
