Sturdy Print installs ABG’s Digicon Series 3

The investment has further expanded the longstanding relationship between the two companies.

UK-based label printer Sturdy Print has installed an AB Graphic (ABG) Digicon Series 3 finishing press to increase its capabilities and satisfy the current and future demands of its customers.

Over the years, ABG has maintained a longstanding relationship with Sturdy Print. Its slitter/rewinders have been instrumental in Sturdy Print's operations, consistently delivering in terms of durability and performance. According to Sturdy Print, this history of dependability was pivotal in its decision to utilize ABG’s technology for its digital venture.

Another factor that helped Sturdy Print to opt for ABG’s Digicon Series 3 was its customization and modular design.

This new addition is designed to immediately fulfil the needs of its customers, while also providing adaptability to adjust and enhance capabilities in anticipation of future market developments.

The machine is fully equipped, and includes an auto-slitting module, unwind station, dual flexo heads, in-register lamination and cold foil, high-speed flatbed screen printer, die-cutting, dual turret rewind and a de-lamination and re-lamination module.

Concurrent with this technological upgrade, Sturdy Print has expanded its infrastructure by opening a new facility adjacent to its existing factory. The new unit is specifically designed to house the digital label printing equipment, featuring a room with built-in climate control to ensure optimal operation.

This strategic expansion not only enhances production capacity but also lays the groundwork for future growth and innovation.

Sturdy Print’s managing director, Simon Sturdy, said: ‘With any new venture of this significance, there’s always going to be an odd mix of excitement and trepidation. Nonetheless, we’re certain that getting the fundamentals right in terms of the space, reinforced with investing in best-in-class equipment, has set the ground well for this new digital era.

‘Our long-standing partnership with ABG, along with the demonstrable qualities that the machinery possesses, has provided us with the confidence to invest in the new facility, safe in the knowledge that both productivity and quality improvements will be guaranteed.’

Matt Burton, ABG’s global sales director, added: ‘We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Sturdy Print as they embark on their exciting digital journey. The Digicon Series 3, with its advanced capabilities and adaptability, is a perfect match for their innovative spirit.’
