100th Nilpeter FP-4 unit set for installation

Nilpeter has manufactured the 100th FP-4 flatbed unit for hot foil and embossing, which is to be installed on a Panorama digital press at a customer in Europe.

Nilpeter technicians Ivan Klausen and Jens Villumsen have finished work on the 100th FP-4 unit, now ready to be installed with a Panorama digital press line

FP-4 enables in-line foiling and embossing in combination with all Nilpeter presses, and is especially suitable for markets where embellishment features are key, such as wine and spirits, and health and beauty. The FP-4 unit features simultaneous embossing and/or foil opportunities and can be integrated in any desired position in the printing process. As FP-4 allows separating of embossing and foiling, using two units or more, it allows more freedom in design, in addition to reduced tooling costs and a more sustainable and economic use of foil.

The first FP-4 was installed in January 2012, with one of the first going to Auroflex in Italy. ‘Since July 2014, where we integrated the FP-4 unit in our Nilpeter FA-3 flexo press, we have improved the performance of our company’s productivity,’ commented Auroflex chairman Fabio Butera. ‘Printing time is reduced, for many jobs by as much as 50 percent, printing quality has improved due to the accuracy of the FP-4 unit and the in-line process, and we have reduced the use of the off-line finishing to one shift.’

Nilpeter has predicted continued success with the hot foil and embossing unit, seeing a steady rise in the demand for labels and flexible packaging with embellishment features – especially from a growing wine and spirits sector.

FP-4 units are available for customers to test at the company’s headquarters in Slagelse, Denmark, and at the Nilpeter USA facility in Cincinnati, Ohio. Visitors can trial the FP-4 using a print job of their own or choose from a selection of ready-to-print jobs.
