Germany’s Strubl KG opts for compact press platform to target smaller print runs in the flexible package printing market

The compact Evo XDs/n press platforms have been developed by KBA-Flexotecnica in Tavazzano, near Milan. Flexotecnica, the Italian flexo specialist, has belonged to Koenig & Bauer (KBA) for nine months, and was acquired as part of the German press manufacturer’s effort to expand in growing print markets.

Strubl KG is managed by Dr Christoph Strubl and Franz Strubl. The 100-strong firm has a broad product portfolio. Along with film extrusion, flexo printing, laminating and post-press machines, Strubl KG also has its own engineering department for filling machines.

The managing directors of Strubl KG in Wendelstein, near Nuremberg, have chosen an 8-colour press from the Evo XDs series with a print width of (39.3in (1,000mm).

The Evo XDs/n series from KBA-Flexotecnica is designed to be ‘extremely compact’ and, in terms of automation, are aligned for increasingly smaller print runs

KBA-Flexotecnica said Evo XDs/n series presses address the ongoing trend within the flexible packaging market towards smaller print runs with more frequent job changes. The main difference is the Evo XDs’ print width of 23.6-39.3in (600-1,000mm), and 43.3-47.2in (1,100-1,200mm) for the Evo XDn. Both XDs And XDn models can have six or eight printing units and print at 1,148ft/min (350m/min).
