Logett adds digital with Xeikon

Austrian printer Logett has invested in a Xeikon 3300 digital press to meet the trend for diversification

Austrian printer Logett has invested in a Xeikon 3300 digital press

Logett is a subsidiary of Müroll, a manufacturer of adhesive tapes and thermal rolls. Since its founding in 1998, Logett has specialized in the production of self-adhesive labels for a wide variety of labeling and coding systems in unprinted and single or multi-color versions. At the location in Frastanz, 13 employees produce labels for logistics and transport companies, as well as food manufacturers from Austria and Switzerland.

Manfred Pichler, operations manager at Logett, said: ‘The circulation sizes remain the same. But within the edition, the diversity of varieties is growing enormously. We can now realize these orders, which previously passed us by, using digital printing.

‘By eliminating the cliché and tool costs, we can react much faster and more flexibly to customer requests. Printing consecutive numbers and other serializations retrospectively in thermal printing on labels has become uneconomical in the long run.’

Other major reasons cited for investing in the Xeikon 3300 were the use of standard materials, including uncoated paper, thermal paper and PP film, and the availability of food grade toners. Further, the fifth color station of the Xeikon, which Logett originally intended to use for opaque white for transparent labels, is today predominantly equipped with orange. ‘We use the orange for color space extension to enhance the color brilliance of print motifs that contain a lot of reds,’ explained Pichler.

The share of self-adhesive blank labels and logistic labels printed with one or more colors is still the largest market at Logett. However, with its entry into digital printing, Logett has expanded its flagship product range. The Xeikon press is running alongside two flexo presses

And as business opportunities expand and digital inkjet printing could be used for other jobs and materials, Logett has identified that printing technology as an option for the future. Xeikon has launched its own UV inkjet press portfolio.

To cope with this and other expansion, Logett plans to expand its production facility next year, with more room for logistics and warehousing.
