Volkers invests in Esko to enhance production efficiencies

The family-owned operation offers a one-stop-shop service from design to print for retailers, brand owners and printers. It has invested in a range of technologies that streamline its operation, reducing costs and cycle time. This includes a variety of pre-press software from Esko, most recently Automation Engine Connect.

Volkers has streamlined its workflow with Automation Engine Connect and added production flexibility with pre-press editing and workflow tools, as Volkers director Rick Volkers explained: ‘We wanted to build a bridge between our ERP system and production workflow. Automation Engine Connect was the ideal solution. It enables us to drive efficiency, reduce errors, shorten delivery times as well as create highly accurate cost estimation. Its ease of use and openness make integration easier to manage. We can grow automation in our business without disruption.’

‘Our aim was to simplify our information communications technology, increase efficiency, reduce errors and have a better overview of the entire production process. We wanted to take greater control of our operation, and Esko’s solutions have enabled us to do so. We are especially pleased with the ease of use and openness of Automation Engine Connect, making it easier to develop and manage integrations and to increase automation over time with minimal disruption to our operation.

Volkers has also invested in a Kongsberg X20 digital finishing device and an Esko CDI Advance 4260 laser imager for direct exposure on flexo plates and sleeves. The Kongsberg X20 is used for efficient cutting of flexo plates to make them ready to go on print cylinders, while the Esko CDI Advance 4260 is aimed at high-quality flexo applications, primarily in the flexible packaging and folding carton markets, with inroads into corrugated.
