Avery Dennison reorganizes Asia-Pacific operations

Avery Dennison plans greater Australian competitiveness by downsizing its Adelaide plant, writes Henry Mendelson.

Avery Dennison downsizes Adelaide operation

Avery Dennison ASEAN, Australian & New Zealand vice-president and general manager David Martin has confirmed a change in the company’s operations at its Adelaide plant to ‘preserve and increase its competitiveness’.

Martin said the company aims to preserve and increase its competitiveness by downsizing the Adelaide operation with a smaller impact in other locations and transitioning 20 percent of manufacturing capacity to existing Avery Dennison international operations in Thailand and Malaysia.

‘This realignment will involve decommissioning an ageing adhesive coating machine that would require significant investment to upgrade and maintain,’ Martin said.

‘This decision has been made in the light of increasingly challenging market conditions and following an extensive review of the business to determine the best way of securing a future for our company in Australia.

‘Our objective is to accommodate as many voluntary redundancies as possible, balancing the company’s need to retain the right skills and expertise to take the business forward.’

Martin added that the move will not affect Avery Dennison’s leadership position as the largest manufacturer of self-adhesive materials in Australia.
