Latest Dscoop EMEA conference sees digital label and package printing take bigger role

Digital label and package printing had a more prominent role at the recent Dscoop Open conference in Dublin, Ireland, with a dedicated stream of sessions and workshops providing members of the digital printing networking group with up-to-date information on opportunities and challenges in these fields.

Coca-Cola’s Gregory Bentley and Iceland Foods’ Ian Schofield joined by Mike Ferrari of Ferrari Innovation Solutions for a discussion on how brands see and use print

Dscoop Open took place June 3-5 and was the fourth conference hosted by the group’s EMEA branch, and for the first time included a dedicated stream for attendees interested in digital label and package printing. This included a presentation from Barb Pellow of InfoTrends on future trends, who was joined by Amberley Labels managing director Trevor Smith, and a panel discussion on how brands see and use print which saw Coca-Cola’s Gregory Bentley and Iceland Foods’ Ian Schofield joined by Mike Ferrari of Ferrari Innovation Solutions. An ‘Ask the Experts’ session provided an opportunity for delegates to interact with industry experts on key topics and areas of interest, such as color management and materials.

Parallel sessions positioning and evaluating the HP Indigo 30000 for digital folding carton printing and the HP Indigo 20000 for digital flexible package printing were also presented.

The Dscoop EMEA labels and packaging committee was introduced at the event, with Chris Tonge of Ultimate Packaging/Ultimate Digital in the UK, Cees Schouten of Geostick in The Netherlands, Iban Cid of Germark in Spain, Roberto Nardini of Draeger GPP in Italy and Marcelo Akierman of HP Indigo the five members of the committee.

Away from the presentations and education program, Dscoop Open featured a Solutions Showcase where HP Indigo had a number of presses running, including 20000, 30000 and WS6800 models, AB Graphic demonstrated its Digicon finishing line, LasX Europe made its first public appearance, Scodix showed off its Ultra Pro system, Iggesund showed its material options and Highcon presented its Euclid digital cutting and creasing system. Kama, Comexi, Brotech, Michelman, Yupo and Zünd also featured as further supplier partners in the Solutions Showcase.

After the opening keynote from Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager of HP Indigo, the inaugural Inkspiration Awards were presented, with Coreti, Uni Packaging and MR Cartonnage claiming the prizes in the Labels, Flexible Packaging and Folding Carton categories respectively

The next Dscoop EMEA conference is to take place in Israel on April 6-10, 2016, and is expected to again include strong representation of digital label and package printing technology.
