PaperImpact comprises pulp producers, specialty paper manufacturers and converters.

Its president Eckhard Kallies (pictured) has described 2013 as a year of development and specific improvements to the association, and said: ‘In order to respond to continuing innovation and growth in the specialty paper sector, we intend in the coming months to launch a program of initiatives aimed at raising the profile of the association, making it more active and more supportive to our members and the specialty paper industry sector in general.’

PaperImpact has devised a strategic “road map” that has been formed by surveying and analyzing the specialty paper market. The overall aim of the work is to create a platform for sharing, and discussing the different issues facing the sector.

The current PaperImpact website, www.paperimpact.org, will be updated, restructured and transformed to be more interactive, with surveys, industry news and practical tools.

Kallies concluded: ‘PaperImpact members are constantly working to find innovative and sustainable solutions that answer specific packaging needs and offer considerable advantages to brand owners. Our members are also committed to constantly increasing efficiency, by reducing emissions, recycling and managing waste, throughout their operations, in order to minimise any environmental impact.

‘This is why, more than ever, in our environmentally conscious world, specialty papers are becoming the first choice for packaging and labeling, and why we need to be more proactive in promoting their use. Specialty papers offer a real alternative to other non-sustainable packaging materials and are highly appreciated by consumers, clearly, they resonate with their concerns about the environment and ultimately, have a big part to play in influencing their attitudes, behavior and purchase preferences.

‘We believe PaperImpact members are creating a new vision for paper packaging and labeling and in so doing, are also contributing towards creating a greener future for us all.’
