Requiring fewer label changes, offering increased uptime and using a thermal transfer printing technique, Videojet Technologies Inc has launched its new P3400 label printer applicator to the packaging sector.

With a modular design for a seamless combination of the base system, a print engine, and one of eight standard application modules - the system has a standard 14-inch (350mm) unwind reel  (16-inch/400mm optional) that results in fewer label change-overs and increased productivity.

Videojet’s P3400 also has an optical low-label sensor, which along with a ‘one-screen set up’, make it an off-the-shelf solution that can be customized to suit most printing and packaging applications in the food and beverage, consumer goods, cosmetics, industrial, materials-handling, pharmaceutical, tobacco and warehousing industries.

The P3400 features premium-quality thermal transfer printing for high-resolution bar codes and text for shipping labels, which can be fixed anywhere on a shipping carton or case.

The versatility of a modular design minimizes changeover downtime due to its easy-change electronics and air module. Ethernet connectivity, with a host PC, makes the P3400 simple to set up and control through a familiar HTML web page interface. The system’s software features a multiple label configuration menu and user-configured beacon and status output.

Olivier Bastien, Videojet’s LPA product manager in Europe, commented:  ‘The P3400 modules give packagers a range of application options and the modules allow users to place a label wherever they want to, including boxes and pallets, corners and multiple panels.’

The P3400 is compatible with a variety of thermal transfer and RFID print engines, such as Zebra and SATO. Other features include flight time compensation for automatic label placement control; shaft encoder input for variable speed conveyors and rugged construction that can handle the most challenging environments.

The P3400 is CE, UL, CSA and TUV GS certified (depending on the application module).
