Innovia launches white version of Propafilm RCU

Innovia Films has launched Propafilm RBCU, a solid white version of its recently introduced Propafilm RCU, an acrylic coated BOPP film that has proven barrier to mineral oil migration for up to 1.5 years.

Propafilm RBCU has all the qualities and benefits of Propafilm RCU

Propafilm RBCU has all the qualities and benefits of Propafilm RCU, such as excellent barrier properties, a low sealing threshold and a broader sealing range. Due to its versatility, the chocolate and snack markets are likely to be interested in this product, Innovia Films said.

Propafilm RCU features a proprietary acrylic coated film for an effective barrier to mineral oil migration, with analysis identifying the optimum coat weight of acrylic required to maximize the barrier protection. It is also printable.

Innovia Films said the development of Propafilm RCU has been the result of proactive investigation into the mineral oil hydrocarbon (MOH) and mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbon (MOAH) barrier protection of its films. This included evaluation of films with multiple laydowns, increased coat weights and one side/two side variations.

Andy Sweetman, marketing manager packaging and sustainability at Innovia Films, said: ‘On the back of this successful launch, our R&D team have rapidly accelerated the final stages of development work on a sister product – Propafilm RBCU, a white version.’

Sweetman alluded to further work Innovia Films is undertaking to extend the further with a one-side coated variant designed specifically for laminate applications.

These developments are being fuelled by Innovia Films’ investment in its ‘bubble’ line to increase its capacity and refocus its efforts on polypropylene films range.

On the topic of mineral oil migration, Sweetman said: ‘This is obviously an area of concern for many dried food manufacturers. We are currently running over 40 trials across Europe with existing and potential customers. Some are exciting developments. We are unable to be specific at this time, but we hope to be able to announce more details in the near future.’
