Altana names new supervisory board

The new supervisory board of Altana AG has constituted itself, with Dr Klaus-Jürgen Schmieder elected as the new chairman.
 
Schmieder, a former management board member of L’Air Liquide, had previously served as chair of Altana’s audit committee, and has been a member of the company's Supervisory Board since 2001.
 
Dr Monika Engel-Bader, president of Chemetall until 2011; Dr Lothar Steinebach, a member of the management board of Henkel until the end of June 2012; and Dr Antonio Trius, chief executive officer of Cognis until 2010, were newly elected to the supervisory board.
 
Ulrich Gajewiak and Susanne Klatten remain deputy chairpersons of the supervisory board, while Dr Lothar Steinebach was elected as new chairman of the audit committee.
Altana develops, produces and sells specialty chemicals. The product range includes additives, special coatings and adhesives, effect pigments, sealants and compounds, impregnating resins and varnishes, and testing and measuring instruments.
 
Group structure
The group consists of four operating divisions: BYK Additives & Instruments, ECKART Effect Pigments, ELANTAS Electrical Insulation and ACTEGA Coatings & Sealants. It operates 43 companies, plus 47 application and research laboratories, worldwide.
 
Dr Fritz Fröhlich, the previous chairman of the supervisory board, as well as Dr Helmut Eschwey and Dr Carl Voigt, retired from the supervisory board upon the expiry of their term of office.
