Benson raises £5,000 through charity challenge

The Cardboard Cut-Out team from Benson Group successfully completed the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge event on June 8, and raised over £5,000 for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

2013 was the fourth Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge, organized by Samworth Brothers, a major UK food producer and customer of Benson Group, and the three previous events have raised more than £850,000 to benefit charities both local to the events and nationwide.

The fourth charity challenge took place in Scotland, incorporating Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

The team of four from Benson Group consisted of Bardon site general manager Mike Owens; Jonathan Bostock, national accounts director; Colin Kunz, group financial director; and HR advisor Louise Webster.

They completed a nine-mile walk up Ben Lomond, a 6.2-mile canoe stage across Loch Lomond and a 27-mile bike ride around the Trossachs.

Samworth Brothers, a customer of Benson Group, arranged for this, its fourth Charity Challenge, to take place in Scotland, incorporating the breath-taking scenery of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

Webster said: ‘From the beginning the team have been very committed to this challenge, spending many weekends and evenings training and preparing for the event.

‘As a team we had to make some tough decisions on the challenge and despite it being three men and a blonde, we made the right choices for ourselves.

‘It was an amazing challenge and the fact that our final total raised £5,360 for Midlands Air Ambulance makes the whole event very worthwhile.’

She added: ‘On behalf of the Cardboard Cut-Out team, I would like to thank everyone who supported us. We really didn’t expect to raise this huge amount of money, or receive the almost overwhelming level support that we did from the company, our colleagues, friends and family.’
