Essentra has acquired 100 percent of the share capital of Ireland’s Dakota Packaging.

Dakota will operate as part of Essentra’s Packaging & Securing Solutions business unit, and follows the earlier acquisition of the pan-European packaging provider Contego Healthcare in May, which is now operating as Essentra Packaging.

Dakota supplies cartons to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries in Ireland. For the year ended September 30, Dakota generated revenue of 15.2 million EUR (20.4 million USD).

The acquisition of Dakota is consistent with Essentra’s Vision 2015 strategy of complementing balanced profitable organic growth with value-adding transactions.

The addition of Dakota to its Packing & Securing Solutions division will provide an expanded and more focused platform from which to serve the attractive growth pharmaceutical and healthcare end-markets, Essentra said, as well as significant additional scale in Ireland.

Alison Evans, managing director of Essentra’s Packaging & Securing Solutions division, said: ‘The acquisition of Dakota underscores our ambition to be the premier provider of creative and secure packaging solutions to our customers and end-markets of choice.

‘Our plans represent a significant investment in our capabilities in Ireland and will ensure we have the best operational footprint and necessary space to meet the growing needs of the healthcare and consumer packaging industries we serve, under our new Essentra Packaging identity.’
