AstroNova introduces desktop printer

AstroNova has introduced the QuickLabel QL-125 desktop industrial color label printer.

Engineered to deliver high print quality fast, the QL-125 offers lower total cost of ownership and enhanced user experience. It also provides a 10 percent longer lifetime than its predecessor, the QuickLabel QL-120 series printers, along with several other feature enhancements.

The QL-125 prints at up to 13in/sec (330 mm/sec) while maintaining 1,200x1,200DPI output, without compromising print quality or printhead life. A built-in processor also speeds variable-data printing, whether run through the included CQL Pro software or a standard Windows printer driver, and an expanded print duty cycle sustains high-speed operation longer before thermal throttling, adding throughput across every shift length.

The QL-125 uses the same printhead as the QL-120 series printers with water-based dye inks, protecting customers' existing investment and simplifying service inventory for those upgrading. Enhanced two-level auto cleaning, dual-level manual cleaning and a nozzle check and compensation function work together to eliminate defects from non-firing nozzles and sustain print quality over time.

The QL-125 was engineered to reduce consumable spend and service frequency. Every maintenance interval has been extended, and a new Lifetime Transport Unit was designed to outlast the printer under most application conditions. With an ink pre-fire function that reduces wasted ink during intermittent or short-run printing and 42 percent larger capacity, maintenance cartridge replacements will be required only after 800,000 labels or so on average.

A purpose-built 4.3in color touchscreen and integrated hardware interface eliminate the need for external tools and add-on hardware, giving operators live status on ink levels, printhead life and print count, along with user-programmable shortcuts and a full on-device QuickGuide with step-by-step visual maintenance instructions. A built-in USB 2.0 memory port enables fast settings transfer, suitable for hot-swapping printers during production. An adjustable top-of-form sensor supports circular, oval and other specially shaped die-cut labels without requiring black-mark media.

The QL-125 introduces a comprehensive suite of network enhancements built for complex IT infrastructures. A built-in GPIO interface (six inputs, ten outputs) eliminates the need for a separate external control unit and adds three new GPIO commands: Reprint Last Label, Auto Cleaning and Head Cleaning Request. The printer also adds IPv6 support with automatic configuration, a built-in firewall and DNS/mDNS support for name-based printer discovery, plus SNMP support for remote monitoring of printer status, ink levels and errors through standard network management tools.

The QL-125 is built for customers who demand high-volume reliability and minimal operational overhead in color label printing, including manufacturing and warehouse operations with continuous or high-cycle labeling requirements; pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations requiring label traceability, audit trails and regulatory compliance; food and beverage producers managing demanding environmental conditions and frequent label changeovers; logistics and distribution centers integrating with PLCs, applicators and automated systems; and IT-managed enterprise environments that require IPv6, SNMP monitoring and firewall controls.
