Falconer first UK printer to install Diana X with braille unit

Falconer Print & Packaging is the first company in the UK to install a Diana X folder gluer with a braille unit.

The company produces cartons for the healthcare, cosmetic and giftware market sectors, in addition to the pharmaceutical market, and these could, in future, be affected by European legislation to meet the needs of the partially sighted.

'Running it on the Diana will be more cost effective, particularly on short and medium runs’

Hadyn Bradbury (pictured, above), managing director at Falconer, said: ‘Pharmaceuticals represent over 30 percent of our turnover and the volume is growing. We currently produce braille on the die cutter, but the tooling costs are expensive, and running it on the Diana will be more cost effective, particularly on short and medium runs.’

The braille unit is situated immediately after the alignment station, to ensure exact positioning. It uses the male-female method with an etched plate punched to create the braille dots. The flexibility of the system enables it to emboss on any panel, and on any size of carton with multiple lines of information, at speeds of 100,000 cartons/hour.

Falconer claims the Diana was chosen for its build quality, robustness, and value for money. The length of the machine also offers more options in terms of carton design, and it is both simple and quick to make ready. The modular structure also allows for further options to be added, and it can be connected to the company’s Prinect workflow system.
