German converter takes Titan slitter to improve productivity
- Machine to grow slitting capacity and improve productivity

- To be installed in purpose-built production hall in Germany in Q3

Atlas Converting Equipment is to deliver a Titan ER610 compact slitter rewinder to German converter Heukäufer Folien, as the converter looks to increase productivity

Heukäufer Folien was established nearly a century ago, and has become one of Germany’s leading suppliers of specialized printed and composite films and flexible packaging materials, mainly used in the food processing sector.

Located in Herten, north-west Germany, the Titan ER610 will be installed in a new, purpose-built production hall during August.

Atlas said the Titan ER610 has been a “great success”, with sales of more than 100 to date machines worldwide.

It is available in two web widths – 1,350 and 1,650mm and features a 10-inch touchscreen control system.

A pneumatically controlled braking system provides accurate web tension control and a digital edge-guide system controls lateral movement of the unwind reel to +/- 50mm.

Slitting systems available include shear knives, rotary razor (burst) or razor slitting in air or groove. Optional features include laser (line) core positioning and also a shaftless unwind roll pick-up from the floor.

Different substrates
The Titan ER610 slitter can process a wide range of flexible materials including plain, printed, coated or metallized film from 20 to 200 microns, a wide range of laminates and paper from 30 to 200gsm.

It is a more environmentally friendly solution with reduced power consumption, no hydraulics for oil-free, hygienic operation, un-lubricated compressed air for zero oil/air emissions and less steel through its compact design. Its “one-piece” construction also enables rapid installation and commissioning.

The Titan ER610 slitter at Heukäufer Folien will be for materials up to 1,350mm-wide with a maximum speed of 450m/min. Rewind diameters can be up to 610mm with a minimum slit width of 35mm.

The slitter will also be equipped with laser safety scanners, a static control system and edge trim extraction system.

Improving productivity
Kurt Barth, managing director of Heukäufer Folien, said: ‘We decided some time ago that we needed to improve our productivity and replace an existing slitter rewinder.

‘The Titan ER610 model is very compact and is a perfect solution for our production requirements.

‘We took some time to research the market and consider several suppliers but we were very impressed by the high performance of the Titan machine during a demonstration some months ago.

‘We are looking forward very much to increasing our slitting capacity within the next few months.’
