ABG paddlers get ready for charity event

A B Graphic International’s team is taking part in the annual York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge to raise funds for Bridlington charity

A B Graphic International’s (ABG) team is taking part in the annual York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge, held on the River Ouse on September 12, 2021, to raise funds for Bridlington charity.

The print finishing equipment manufacturer’s team, aptly named the Average Boating Gang, will be raising funds for Bridlington CYP, a Bridlington-based charity providing a wide range of sports, activities, and opportunities for all within the local community, regardless of economic background.

The event, which has been held every year since 2003 (except 2020 due to the pandemic) and has helped raise GBP 1.2m for charities over that time, will feature 32 teams competing for the Challenge Trophy and other prestigious awards, such as the fastest charity team, fastest armed services team, and a ‘best-dressed team’ trophy, which ABG won in 2019, having also reached the final.

For this year’s race, the team of 16 paddlers taking part, together with a drummer who sets the pace, has been training at nearby Welton Water Adventure Centre.

‘Our participation in this year’s Dragon Boat race reflects the best of working life at ABG - fun with colleagues, an ambition for high performance, all while supporting the local community. Please wish us luck this year,’ said ABG’s Matt Burton, global sales director.
