Farne of Scotland has a long history of supplying private-label fish products to leading retailers. In September 2020, the company launched its own luxury branded salmon and trout, Strong & Robust Smoked Salmon, in Tesco.

Supporting the brand’s sustainable sourcing and environmental philosophy from product to packaging, Farne of Scotland partnered with Coveris to develop luxurious and recyclable, envelope-style carton board packaging. Using a new FSC sustainably sourced and recyclable metalized board, Coveris utilizes specialist printing techniques to produce a combination of matte, gloss, and embossed finishes for both a premium look and feel.

‘It was an exciting project to work with Farne of Scotland for its first branded line for retail and develop packaging that reflects its quality and environmental ethos,’ explained Sam Johnson, new business development manager for labels and board business unit at Coveris. ‘Supporting our No Waste vision, Coveris continues to innovate our products and explore new materials that deliver in-store and on-shelf impact in a sustainable way. With this packaging, we have achieved luxury visual and tactile appeal using responsibly sourced and recyclable materials, aligned with the sustainability values of both Coveris and Farne of Scotland.’

Following the successful launch in September, Farne of Scotland Strong and Robust Smoked Salmon was recognized in the Quality Food Awards 2020, winning the top prize in the best Smoked Fish category. Farne of Scotland is now set to expand its range with other products in the pipeline and confirmed launches in the UK retail market in 2021.
