Keeping warm in recycled PET bottles

Over a million 500ml PET bottles have been diverted from waste streams and recycled into polyester materials to be used in Woolworths’ 2020 winter fashion ranges.

Keeping warm in recycled PET bottles

Woolworths (South Africa’s equivalent of the UK’s Marks & Spencer) is a frontrunner in the field of environmental responsibility, and its good business journey prioritizes sourcing sustainable fibers and including recycled materials in products and packaging.

While Woolworths has previously used recycled polyester in other items, this winter season has seen sustainable fabrics used in most puffer jackets and gillets, as well as some polar fleece items across men’s, ladies’ and kids’ wear.

The major use of recycled polyester made from PET bottles is for the inner ‘wadding’ in popular puffer jackets.

Woolworths also uses recycled PET bottles in duvet filling, reusable shopping bags and packaging.
