Ankerkraut opts for cab IXOR labeling heads

German spice manufacturer Ankerkraut has invested in a bespoke cab IXOR system featuring one of the smallest servo-driven labeling heads in its class to apply labels to up to 8,000 containers per hour in fully automated operation.

Gernep, a cab partner, has designed technology dedicated to labeling specifically for Ankerkraut. By operating two to three IXOR units in-line, front, back, and sealing labels are applied to a maximum of 8,000 containers per hour.

Sensors detect each container and then the respective labels are applied. On the front of containers, the labels provide a face and promote the brand, while labels applied to the back display the identity of a product. The additional print module enables subsequent marking with flexible data, such as shelf lives. A flexible kit of essential components allows both glass containers sealed by cork or screw-capped PET containers to be printed in the manufacturing plant with all machine parameters adjusted automatically.

cab IXOR labeling heads apply self-adhesive labels precisely in continuous or clocked operation. Units can be explicitly configured to a customer's need while maintaining the high quality of largescale manufacturing. Additional equipment for assembly, column and floor stands support IXOR to be integrated for linear or rotary plants.

Label webs on an IXOR are fed and set in position by a dynamic servo controller. A high-torque external rotor drive moves any roll in continuous operation. The control unit integrated into the chassis can detect differences in height and verify each applied label.

‘cab has been known to us for quite some time as an innovator in label printing systems. When cab added systems for dispensing self-adhesive labels in rotary and linear plants to its range, we immediately had a feeling these will fit perfectly with our solutions,’ added Martin Hammerschmid, managing director of Gernep. ‘Our cooperation has been very complimentary. It is a pleasure to collaborate with cab. I am sure our partnership will be a long-term one. This is a win-win situation for cab, Gernep, and the customers.’
