Cartes unveils Gemini converting line
At Labelexpo Americas 2016, Cartes has launched its Gemini 360 series of finishing machines.
The new Gemini series includes a wide range of customized systems, starting from an entry-level configuration up to a fully equipped converting line.
Options include full-rotary and semi-rotary flexo, semi-rotary die-cutting and Cartes’ CO1 Semi-Sealed Laser Source.
Visitors at the expo can see the Gemini GE362VR converting labels in semi-rotary mode at over 100 meters per minute.
The semi-rotary die-cutting unit is showcasing the ability to use magnetic dies to produce labels at different lengths. Thanks to the Image Distortion System (IDS), it is now possible to re-use pre-existing dies created for specifics cylinders, even worn, to die-cut different lengths. The IDS allows the customer to widen and narrow multiple label lengths up to 20 percent from the original die, always keeping label interspaces constant.
Another innovation to the semi-rotary die-cutting unit is the Air Gap System (AGS). It is electronically controlled, permitting absolute depth precision from the first cycle, says the company. This eliminates the possibility of breaking dies by a wrong adjustment as well as avoiding material waste.
On the show floor, Cartes shows its Invisible Laser Cutting (ILC) system that allows converting of dark color printed labels while avoiding the white line edges caused by laser cutting temperature.
Also processed during the show, in-mold labeling is also suitable for the ILC system, including other linerless materials.
