Comexi looks at narrow web market

Comexi Proslit has launched a new slitter rewinder with twin rewind shafts as standard.

Known as the Duo2 HD, it is capable of rewinding up to 1,000mm rolls, and has a minimum slitting width of 40mm, or, depending on the material, 20mm. Width capability is from 1,450-2,150mm, with running speeds from 400-600m/min.

The new Comexi Duo2 HD is designed for packaging sectors that include cups (cardboard), lids (aluminum and laminations with aluminum) and self-adhesive labels (paper with silicone). Each of these markets requires input reels with a minimum diameter of 1,000mm, so the new machine brings Comexi into contact with the market of narrow web printing with inline die cutting, amongst others.

According to the manufacturer, market research indicated the need for a machine that could delaminate double-sided material, slit it and rewind it into separate reels. By designing the Duo2 HD with independent rewinder motors, the two reels can be rewound in opposite directions, combining three processes in one and reducing time to market.

The horizontal lay-on carriage is independent and equipped with a special bowed roller with low inertia narrow rings and bearings. The arrow and curvature varies to allow previous cuts to be opened. Minimum slit width is 40mm with diameters up to 1,000mm and a maximum weight of 1,000kg per shaft. Rigid and semi-rigid materials can also be handled, but not those with elastic properties.

The design allows the folding of wide material, which is then slit and separated, and also the separating or de-laminating of the PET layer from the paper when transferring holograms, which is then slit in-line.
