The press is configured with an opaque white station for printing on metallized and clear labelstocks. The press can be set by the operator for printing at 600, 900 or 1200dpi depending on the design and substrate type. The NeoMercury will handle unsupported substrates from 30 microns to as thick as 600 microns, with integrated corona treater, web cleaner and ionization bar.

Yong-Bae Kim, digital press team manager at the South Korean manufacturer, demonstrated to L&L a security encryption system which now ships with the press. Called ITP (Internet-to-Print), the software encrypts data before digitally printing it, then allowing that to be decrypted using a smartphone app.

‘The sequence is Encode, Print, Scan. We see interesting applications in medical, for example accessing confidential patient information by authorised personnel at a clinic or hospital,’ said Kim. ‘But there are also interesting ways brands can use it to communicate and gather information from consumers.’
