Simec Group launches range of engravings

The Simec Group, a supplier of anilox rolls, sleeves and accessories for flexographic printing, has released a range of engravings named Leonardo and an anilox surface finishing called Kiss Touch.

The Leonardo series is a type of engraving achieved by Thermal Yag class laser equipment. There are six at Simec and they allow engraving up to 1,000 lines/cm.

Thanks to the technology’s ‘multi hit’ process, it is possible to obtain cells with steep walls, allowing for higher capacity of ink transfer volume.

Thermal Yag laser systems can be utilized with a variable number of hits and therefore the final result can differ depending on the equipment setting. This requires the standardization of the measuring system of cells and volumes. For this reason, Simec has created the FMRG testing certification which provides printers with detailed information about cells shape and capacity. This combination engraving-certification enables printers to set up their printing equipment precisely and quickly and to reduce waste during machine set-up.

Laser engravings produce a contact surface between doctor blade and anilox of at least 90-95 percent, says the company, and Simec has developed an engraving finishing, named Kiss-Touch, which is said to guarantee this ‘soft’ and constant contact. The result is a reduced wear of the doctor blade, while the problems of scoring lines and ink accumulation on the blade and in the chamber are claimed to be significantly reduced.
