Soma launches compact laminator

Soma Engineering has developed the Lamiflex C, a versatile, compact new laminator that compliments its existing range of laminating systems. Primarily designed for solvent-free applications, the Lamiflex C can be supplied with options such as cold sealing, solvent-based adhesive application, anti-mist system and lacquer coating. A wide variety of substrates can be laminated including overlays such as BOOP, PETP, LDPE, LLDPE, OPA, aluminum, coextruded films and paper.
Pavla Vernerova, brand manager, said: ‘Today’s printers and converters need to be able to add a variety of finishing options within already crowded premises. With the Lamiflex C we have addressed space issues and can offer customers a machine with a small footprint without compromising the capabilities of the machine.’
The drying system developed by Soma incorporates two independent stainless steel sections with air nozzles giving controlled air turbulence within each drying tunnel. The blower speed is measured and computer controlled for each job parameter to optimize energy consumption and reduces noise levels.
Interchangeable coating trolleys permit fast job change-over time and waste while minimizing operator work load. Cold sealing includes a registration control system which reads a pre-printed mark to digitally control the angular position of the coating roll and the in-feed roller giving a register accuracy of /- 1 mm (0.04”) throughout the machines operating speed range.
Shaftless unwind and rewind units use AC servomotors and pneumatic chucks for faster and easier roll handling while maximizing control accuracy. This control is achieved through the output signal of a low friction dance roller assembly. The line incorporates Soma’s parabolic rewind tension control system to avoid roll telescoping and allow laminating and coating of a wide range of substrates. Dual unwind stations are equipped with an ultrasonic sensor providing a high degree of edge guiding to prevent lateral mis-registration.
The machine can handle web widths ranging from 300 to 1,350 mm (12 to 53”) at speeds up of up to 450 m/min (1,475 fpm). All system functions are controlled via management software and through intuitive touch screen controls that also permit job parameters to be set and stored for future recall.
Options include cooling cylinders, Corona treater and a dual impression roller system for higher laminating quality.
