Nipson celebrates 15 years of Varypress
Nipson Digital Printing Systems PLC is celebrating an important landmark in digital printing, marking 15 years since the launch of its VaryPress high speed tension-web digital printing system.
The Nipson VaryPress was first launched in 1991 and has since sold to end-users serving markets such as forms, book on demand, print-on-demand, security, label, direct mail, and transactional markets. Magnetography and non-heat flash toner fusing are the core driving technologies for the VaryPress, and give Nipson users the capacity to print variable data in high volumes on a wide range of substrates.
Today, the VaryPress 400 runs at a top speed of 125 meters per minute (415 ft/m) and has 600 dpi output, providing excellent print quality. Since this model was introduced in 2004, it has driven strong growth in the high-end market for Nipson.
‘The success of today’s high-end VaryPress solutions is built over 20 years of investment in technological development,’ said Alfons Buts, managing director of Nipson Digital Printing Systems PLC. ‘With magnetography and non-heat flash toner fusing as core technologies, reliability, flexibility, and productivity are the cornerstones of the VaryPress success.’
The tension-web high-end Nipson VaryPress range was designed from the start with a unique combination of speed and flexibility allowing it to be integrated into a wide range of finishing, labeling and printing equipment. This has proved to be an ideal solution for industries such as forms, direct mail, publishing, security, transactional, and labeling.
‘From the very beginning, VaryPress systems have been integrated with labeling equipment, finishing systems, and high speed flexographic and offset printing presses,’ said Buts. ‘Today, this is a growing trend allowing users to increase productivity and reduce costs. Nipson provides market proven systems that enable a dependable yet flexible core component to any production digital printing operation.’
The first VaryPress shipped was installed at Wallace in 1991. Since that time, Moore Wallace and RR Donnelley added over 20 Nipson units for forms, labels, direct mail, and book plants across the US. The VaryPress with serial number one is still in operation, producing various forms and label applications.
15 years later Transcontinental Inc., the seventh largest printer in the North American market, has added to its direct mail capabilities by installing six new VaryPress 200s in its facility in Philadelphia. This installation adds to the company’s current six Nipson 8000s giving Transcontinental greater capability and flexibility for a wide range of direct mail applications. The six new VaryPress 200 units include the 4,000th magnetographic press delivered from Nipson’s manufacturing facility in Belfort, France.
