The North Carolina Commissioner of Labor, Cherie Berry, has appointed Walter Siegenthaler, of the Max Daetwyler Corporation, as chairman of the North Carolina Apprenticeship Council. The Apprenticeship Council is involved in promoting the educational and practical training curriculum for apprenticeship programs throughout the State of North Carolina.

In 1995, MDC was one of the founding companies of the Apprenticeship 2000 program, which works in cooperation with Central Piedmont Community College. After completion of the program, students earn an A.A.S. degree in manufacturing technology and receive an Apprenticeship Certification from the North Carolina Department of Labor. Commissioner Berry utilizes the Apprenticeship 2000 program as a model for other occupations where apprenticeship training would be of great value to employers and students.

For their success and dedication to this hands-on training program, the Max Daetwyler Corporation and the other partner companies (Ameritech, Blum, Sarstedt and Timken) were each presented a plaque from Commissioner Berry during the 22nd Annual Apprenticeship and Training Awards ceremony, which was held on April 20, 2006 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
