New appointment signals recognition of print industry as key science
Dr Long Lin, head of the UK's first Centre for Industrial Collaboration (CIC) in Digital Printing, has been appointed as Professor of Reprographic Science and Technology at the University of Leeds.
The professorship at the University of Leeds is Dr Lin's fourth – he is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Arts in London and two Universities in China.
Commercial manager at Digital Print CIC, David Williams said: ‘Dr Lin's professorship signifies that the print industry is beginning to take its rightful place as a key science. The industry is now attracting specialized talent in color management and chemistry due to the emergence of digital print technology and the appointment of Dr Lin, as Professor of Reprographic Science and Technology, is not only a great boost for the University but will also help attract more talent to this sector.’
Dr Lin has over 20 years' experience in the research and development of print and packaging solutions. As head of the Digital Print CIC, he is responsible for a wide variety of research projects, from anti-counterfeit print solutions and food packaging innovations, to the printing of bio-chemicals on blood glucose test strips for the health sector.
A Fellow of the Institute of Paper, Printing and Publishing, a Fellow of Technology of Surface Coating and the Editor of leading technical journals in the sector, Dr Lin is a regular speaker at international reprographics science & technology conferences. He completed his PhD at the University of Leeds and became a Research Fellow in the Department of Color & Polymer Chemistry in January 1994.
Digital Print Centre of Industrial Collaboration is hosted by The Department of Color & Polymer Chemistry at The University of Leeds, which was founded in 1878, and is the only such department in Europe. The department is generally recognized as the world-leader in color chemistry and the European Centre of Excellence in colorant chemistry, textile coloration, printing and surface coating science and technology.
