Russia’s first Heidelberg Speedmaster CX 102 press, installed at the turn of the year, will have printed 21 million sheets by the end of 2012.

The press was installed at packaging print shop Gotek-Print in the town Zheleznogorsk. It is a six-color press with coating unit and the integrated Prinect Inpress Control color measuring system, which controls ink and register on the fly.

Gotek started producing commercial jobs at the end of the 1960s and now comprises a group of companies. The broad-based product range covers corrugated board and all kinds of packaging, including flexo printed micro-flute packaging, offset printed folding cartons, and flexible and press-formed packaging.

It claims a 20 percent slice of the offset-laminated packaging market in Russia, with a six percent share of folding carton production.

Gotek-Print and its 376 employees produce packaging for products such as alcoholic beverages, pharmaceuticals, foodstuff concentrates and, in particular, household appliances and confectionery.

Customers include major international groups such as Nestlé, Kraft Foods and Mars, as well as leading Russian companies including Aquaphor, Barier and Russian Standard, and foreign food, beverage, and consumer electronics manufacturers.

Sergei Sumin (pictured, top), managing director of Gotek-Print, said: ‘The press meets key criteria for us, such as high-quality printing, process reliability, user-friendliness, high productivity, and efficient maintenance.

‘With Prinect Inpress Control, we cut our waste significantly, most especially when using spot colors. We also save a great deal of money, as card is very expensive.

‘We print for well-established brand owners that insist on absolutely correct color reproduction for repeat jobs. Changes are rare – around 80 percent of orders are printed without any corrections and our customers receive consistent color results.

‘Our employees in the pressroom are also delighted with the excellent ease of operation of the Speedmaster CX 102, which has a direct impact on the press's productivity.’

Printers Andrei Troshin and Sergei Karchenkov are delighted with the new press, jointly saying: ‘Compared to the Speedmaster CD 102, the side frames of the CX 102 are heavier and the grippers are from the Speedmaster XL.

‘The new press therefore runs more smoothly at high speeds and, thanks to innovative new developments in operation and maintenance, is more efficient and user-friendly. The discs used for the sheet brake in the Speedmaster CD have been replaced by suction tapes, thus enabling more effective sheet alignment in the delivery pile.’

Sumin adds that Gotek-Print can now print long runs at high speeds and in excellent quality. ‘With runs of 20,000 sheets and more, we're ideally equipped for mass production," he said.

‘Technicians from Heidelberg CIS are able to perform services to meet specific needs and rectify any problems immediately. Service quality is a crucial factor for us in selecting a supplier.’
