Skanem pharma labeling extension safeguards 'against Acts of God'
A new 1,050 sq m state-of-the-art extension to the Lier plant of leading Norwegian pharmaceutical label printer Skanem Oslo is now being built. It will provide the firm with printing and associated facilities to mirror those of the existing plant, ensuring uninterrupted production should operations ever be halted by fire, flood or other natural disaster.
The plant aims to be able to provide a seamless, uninterrupted label printing service to its mix of ‘domestic’ Scandinavian customers and some of the world’s biggest pharmaceutical manufacturers even were the existing plant out of action for several days.
As part of a NKr17m expansion project approved by Skanem’s Board this February, the existing three storey building, which designs, prints and finishes pharmaceutical labels not only for Scandinavian customers, but also for clients throughout the rest of Europe, the Far and Middle East, will by next May be joined to a further 1,050 sq m factory and warehouse facility. Separated from the existing plant by an eight meter thick firewall, it is intended that the design/repro, printing and finishing facilities and dies, cylinders and plates in the factory extension will mirror as closely as possible those in the existing building, enabling production to carry on uninterrupted should any unforeseen event cause a significant production stoppage.
